{"id":80,"date":"2017-04-19T11:57:30","date_gmt":"2017-04-19T15:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportingdetectiondogs.ca\/\/?page_id=80"},"modified":"2017-08-09T10:30:34","modified_gmt":"2017-08-09T14:30:34","slug":"faqs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/stage.sdda.ca\/fr\/front-page\/faqs\/","title":{"rendered":"FAQs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><div class=\"hrf-faq-list\"><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-1621\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-1621\"><span><\/span>Am I a Registered Participant?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-1621\"><p>Great question.\u00a0 We do get this often where someone believes they are, but in fact are not a Registered Participant.\u00a0 When you sign up on the web page to get a login, you are NOT a Registered Participant.\u00a0 We need all that information so you can register your dog or become a Registered Participant.<\/p>\n<p>A Registered Participant is someone who specifically has paid to become one to obtain all the benefits of being one (early trial notification, discounts on dog registrations, free shipping on SDDA swag, etc.) This is for you, not your dog&#8217;s registration. You must renew your Registered Participant status annually.<\/p>\n<p>If you still are not sure if you are an RP &#8211; you can go <a href=\"https:\/\/stage.sdda.ca\/my-registered-participant-status\/\">HERE<\/a>\u00a0and check.\u00a0 If beside <strong>Status<\/strong> it says <strong>Cu<\/strong><strong>rrent or New<\/strong> then you are an RP in good standing.\u00a0 If it is blank or says\u00a0<strong>Expired<\/strong> then you are not a Registered Participant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-642\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-642\"><span><\/span>Why should I register my dog?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-642\"><p>In order to compete in a trial, your DOG must be registered with the SDDA. This registration is for the life of the dog and does not need to be renewed annually. Once you\u2019ve sent in your registration, please allow up to 5 business days for processing and 3 to 4 weeks for your card to arrive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-646\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-646\"><span><\/span>Why should I become a Registered Participant (RP)?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-646\"><p>You do not need to be a Registered Participant in order to compete, however, one of the benefits is that you will get three days advance notice of all trials which may be the difference between getting into a trial that fills quickly and not getting in.<\/p>\n<p>Other benefits include receiving the e-newsletter in your email once it is published, discounts on dog registrations, and swag.<\/p>\n<p>This registration renews annually to continue to receive the benefits and can be cancelled before the next renewal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-648\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-648\"><span><\/span>Do I have to be registered to participate in a Designated Odour Test (DOT)?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-648\"><p>Neither you nor the dog have to be registered to participate in a workshop or Designated Odour Test (DOT). DOTs can be observed since the dogs are not competing, and the odour box is moved for each search. In order to HOST a DOT, you must be a Registered Participant and be experienced in sport detection. Kits can be ordered through our Web Store.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-651\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-651\"><span><\/span>How do I find out about and enter a trial?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-651\"><p><strong>If you are an RP<\/strong> (see above), you will receive an email from the SDDA with a Premium List and Entry form attached once the host has made it available and it has been approved. Fill this out and send it to the trial secretary as noted on the entry form. As a Registered Participant, when you get your trial notification, we trust that you are not passing the Premium List onto non-RPs. You paid for this privilege so don\u2019t nullify it! If you are entering a trial as an RP in the RP-only period, you MUST put your number on the entry form so that the host knows you are an RP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you are not an RP<\/strong>, you can go to our Events Calendar and download a Premium List and Entry Form which will be posted once the three days advanced entry period has passed. Some trials and other events, such as seminars, may also be posted on our Facebook page.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-653\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-653\"><span><\/span>How do I find my dog&#8217;s registration number?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-653\"><p>If your dog registration has been submitted, but you have not received your card yet, you may write \u201cpending\u201d on the entry form for your dog\u2019s SDDA number and contact the SDDA Membership person for your number. Please advise the host as soon as you do get your number so that they can fill out score sheets prior to the day of the trial. You must also bring your dog\u2019s registration card to the trial to confirm that the number is correct and the dog you have entered is the one on the score sheet. This issue can be prevented by registering your dog(s) well in advance of any trial you plan on entering.<\/p>\n<p>Please consider registering your dog and yourself (if you wish) as soon as you feel you are ready to think about trialing. This will help everything run more smoothly. Remember, the dog\u2019s registration is for life so, even if you don\u2019t trial right away, you will have that card on hand for whenever you feel you are ready and a trial comes up that you are interested in entering.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-655\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-655\"><span><\/span>How do I know whether to enter the Amateur Stream or Working Stream?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-655\"><p>Amateur and Working Stream entries are judged separately and placements awarded separately. The judging will be somewhat more stringent for those entered in the Working Stream. You should enter as an Amateur unless:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 you or your dog have worked or are working in a professional (paid) capacity in a detection field<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 you have already titled at the level you are entering<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 you are a paid instructor for sport detection<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 you believe that your experience in scent work or your breadth of knowledge gives you an advantage over other participants<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-657\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-657\"><span><\/span>How do I get a title?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-657\"><p>Once you pass a Container Search, an Interior Search and an Exterior Search at the Started Level, you will have a Started Title. You do not have to pass all three on the same day.\u00a0 However, if you do pass all three on the same day, your title will be a Started Special title. The same applies to the Advanced and Excellent Levels. See the Rule Book on the website for information on additional titles.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stage.sdda.ca\/files\/cache\/3844eda5faec40795e2b807ee77e5812_f196.JPG\" alt=\"Sage_BarbYassine.JPG\" width=\"125\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-659\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-659\"><span><\/span>Once I have titled, will I get confirmation from the SDDA?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-659\"><p>Once you have passed all three Components at a particular Level, a title certificate will be printed and mailed to you. The name you registered your dog under will be reflected on the certificate. Allow a minimum of 10 business days for certificates to be processed and mailed and a maximum of 3 months.\u00a0Contact the SDDA Certificates person if you have not received your certificate after this time. Title certificates are only awarded once for each level.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-661\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-661\"><span><\/span>Once I get my title, do I have to move up to the next level?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-661\"><p>Once you have titled at a particular level, you may enter again at that level as often as you wish, but must enter in the Working Stream. If you are or were employed in detection work you must always enter as Working Stream.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-663\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-663\"><span><\/span>Do you have a list with often used terms, a glossary, available?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-663\"><p>Yes, follow <a href=\"https:\/\/stage.sdda.ca\/files\/9814\/5653\/7776\/Glossary.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this document link<\/a> to get to a separate document where often used terminology is explained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-665\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-665\"><span><\/span>I have more questions. Who should I contact?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-665\"><p>You can send any question to the general mailbox at <a href=\"mailto:info@sportingdetectiondogs.ca\">info@sdda.ca<\/a> or visit the <a title=\"Contact Us - Contactez-nous\" href=\"https:\/\/stage.sdda.ca\/\/front-page\/contact-us\/\">Contact Page<\/a> on this website for direct email addresses for the volunteers handling specific tasks or issues.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                  <\/article><article class=\"hrf-entry\" id=\"hrf-entry-33756\">\n                      <h3 class=\"hrf-title close-faq\" data-content-id=\"hrf-content-33756\"><span><\/span>Why am I not receiving email notifications even though I&#8217;m a Registered Participant?<\/h3>\n                     <div class=\"hrf-content\" id=\"hrf-content-33756\"><div class=\"bi6gxh9e\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3r1vi\" data-offset-key=\"cfvut-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"cfvut-0-0\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">There are two ways this can happen on the SDDA side. The first and most common reason is that your email was returned to us, or &#8216;bounced&#8217;. When email is returned to us, a flag is set to hold future email until the issue has been resolved. This can happen if you have the wrong email address entered, your email host is not working, or your email host bounces the email outright. I try to run an &#8216;unhold&#8217; on the system regularly in hopes of catching the emails this happens too.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bi6gxh9e\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3r1vi\" data-offset-key=\"8gs1r-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8gs1r-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8gs1r-0-0\">The second reason why this could happen is that you intentionally or unintentionally checked the &#8216;Do Not Mail&#8221; under Reg. Information then My Profile. You must modify that if you have set it. We only send emails to Registered Participants, which is part of the benefits of being one.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bi6gxh9e\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3r1vi\" data-offset-key=\"ac0uc-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"ac0uc-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"ac0uc-0-0\">We track all outbound email and are even notified when you open the email so if you think you are not receiving email, just send me a note and I will be happy to look it up. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bi6gxh9e\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"3r1vi\" data-offset-key=\"umst-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"umst-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"umst-0-0\">More times than not, the anti-spam tools your email host or even your mail program uses is the culprit. Often with no indication that it dumped\/deleted the email. Speak with your email host or look into their FAQs for answers on how to &#8216;whitelist&#8217; emails from a specific host.
